World Tobacco Treaty is Saving Lives, US Still Absent

Five years in, 168 countries around the world have ratified the World Health Organization’s tobacco treaty to protect the public from the tobacco industry. After five years, the US is still absent from this list. “It’s time for the United States to join the global community and reclaim a leadership role in taking on the tobacco epidemic,” said Kellett. “This treaty will outlast all of us, setting not only a strong standard for tobacco control but also a powerful precedent for safeguarding democracies against the interference and abuses of powerful industries.”

Sure thats a great idea, tell me what I can and can’t do. Next I’ll be hearing we can’t use lighters because some kid burned his house down in some inner city. So BIC better watch out they might be targetet next because of those dangerous lighters. I mean come on people. Cigarette companies have been telling us the damage they cause and are also trying to help those who want to quit for the past ten years. I;m a smoker. I know these things will kill me. I still chose to smoke and if any harm comes to me its my fault. It’s my freedom and right as an American to chose to slowley kill my self if I want to. Why don’t you people target something like the alcohol industry for the huge amount of coverups and lies they do. O thats right I forgot they pay a lot more money so they can still get away with lying to the American people. Just goes to show that the golden rule still applies. He who has the gold makes the rules.

Dez, you’re absolutely right. You should have the right to kill yourself. But have in mind, that these laws are trying to ensure you don’t take someone else’s live along with you. And if you seriously think that cigarette companies even give a fu*k about people, you really are an idiot.

An industry, that exists solely from the sales of a specific product WILL NOT, EVER, put itself in danger by discrediting it’s own fuc*ing product or by doing anything that would decrease sales of set product.

Again, those laws do not prevent you from smoking. They just limit the number of areas you can practice your “slow-motion suicide”.

So long as I can grow my own tobacco without a problem or buy reasonable priced (not over taxed) organic tobacco from farmers. That means no tax on homegorwn, no hassle.
